On February 28, 2025, US and Ukrainian presidents Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky held public talks. They ended in a tense altercation and the breakdown of agreements due to the parties' disagreement on the issues of Russia's and Ukraine's responsibility for the war and ways to end it [ref].
Trump told Zelensky that Ukraine lacked “strong cards.” In response, Zelensky said he did not come to “play cards” [ref].
One of the reasons for the high degree of the talks was that Zelensky arrived at the meeting not in a classic suit, but in black pants and a sweater, which has been his style of dress since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Trump expressed his displeasure that Zelensky violated the dress code of the residence.
